What is seva?
When one does seva, one should try to do it without any thought of reward or personal benefit.
Seva (say-va) is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service.”
Many Indian religions practice seva as a means for liberation. The spiritual benefits of doing seva and the ways in which it should be performed are explained in many different scripts. It is said that a person who performs selfless service without need for reward will certainly attain liberation. The act of selflessness is imperative in making this action fruitful.
